Finance internship at Fossiel Vrij
Fossiel Vrij
Start Date
Sept. 1, 2016
End Date
Dec. 31, 2016

Are you a student with an interest in finance and want to do research that has a direct connection to the challenge of climate change? Do you enjoy networking and working in a fast-paced environment? If so, you can join our team as an intern student.

We are the Fossil Free Netherlands movement, and we are looking for interns to work on the pension fund divestment team. The Divest movement is one of the fastest growing citizen movements,  started by university students in the US, supported by and growing rapidly across Europe.

Based on the theory of the carbon bubble and ongoing research by UK think-tank Carbon Tracker Initiative and others, it combines both financial and moral arguments for urgency and advocacy to investors to divest out of stocks, bonds or investment funds propping up the fossil fuel sector.

As an intern you get the chance to meet with people from different sectors interested in climate issues and fossil fuels. It can open doors to places you otherwise will not come easily.

We're looking for an intern for the following periods: March – June 2016; Sept – Dec 2016 (8-16 hours per week)

We are looking for an intern (desirably with a background in Environmental studies and/or finance) whose research can help strengthen the financial analysis behind the campaign. Someone who can ask critical questions, analyze the current debate, dig for data and summarize publicly available information on pension fund investments in fossil fuels.

You will relate that analysis to current research and announcements from around the world on weaknesses and risks in the oil, gas, and coal sectors.

We are looking for someone who wants to become familiar with the world of shareholder engagement and the work of organizations like Carbon Tracker Initiative, FossilFreeIndex, CERES, VBDO, etc. and influence the broader public awareness on these issues. As an intern, you can be based with our core team members at our Amsterdam office of Fossil Free Netherlands.

Fluency in Dutch and English required.
